Today in the United States, there are 74.2 million children (0 to 17 years of age). Last year 864 were murdered, and 656,243 were abused (neglected). As you can see the vast majority of children are well taken care of and well protected.

Your question is why does God allow children to be hurt, abused or murdered? God loves children, and God knew what was going to happen every day to every child before He created the world. So why doesn't He rescue every child from every evil thing that can happen to them? I'm sure He rescues children every day, just read the newspaper or tune in to the TV news and you will see children being rescued from raging floods, automobile accidents, fires and so forth.

No one has ever been able to (and never will be able to) figure God out. If God could be figured out He wouldn't be God. I'm sure you have heard the saying "God works in mysterious ways." Indeed He does, but as Roman 8:28 testifies "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

God is most interested in establishing a relationship with us and He will do anything to get our attention turned to Him in order to begin that relationship with us. My aunt and uncle lost their 13 year old daughter to Reyes syndrome. My aunt had been saved at that time for about 30 years. Her husband was not saved at that time. They were both heartbroken but aunt Norma recognized rather early on that God is sovereign and their daughter was only on loan to them for a few years, and His rights over her won out over their rights to her. Uncle Tom however was bitter. He quit attending church with Norma. He began badmouthing God and for 10 years he resisted anything that smacked of Christianity. Aunt Norma prayed every day for him as did I, then one day their church got a new pastor and a couple of his visits later (encouraged by aunt Norma) he led Uncle Tom to the Lord. The end result was another soul was saved for eternity.
