I understand the point being made by the question, but I would say that it would be in the same way (later in John's gospel) that Lazarus heard the voice of Jesus when He said, "Lazarus, come forth!" (John 11:43).

Every time Christ raised somebody from the dead, He spoke the Word (Luke 7:12-15 

"...there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother."

Luke 8:52-56 

"... all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. 53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 54 And He put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. 55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. 56 And her parents were astonished: but He charged them that they should tell no man what was done."

John 11:41-44 

43 "And when he (Jesus) thus had spoken, He cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth.' 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, 'Loose him, and let him go'.").

His Word is “living and powerful” (Heb. 4:12) and can raise sinners from spiritual death. -- WW 

My proof for this is found in Ephesians 2:1-5 --

2:1 ”You were once dead because of your failures and sins. 5 We were dead because of our failures, but he made us alive together with Christ. (It is God's kindness that saved you.)”

Let us face it folks, His voice raises the dead (John 5:25, 28;; John 11:43), whether dead spiritually or dead physically. 

The phrase “shall live” in John 5:25 is used in the sense of John 5:24. Jesus imparts eternal life (Jn 5:21, 24, 26). And in the future, He will raise the dead (Jn 5:25, 28-29), some to everlasting joy (Jn 5:25, 28-29a) and some to everlasting punishment (Jn 5:29b)

John 5:25: Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 

Lord Jesus has the power of life and death, such as when He raised Lazarus and the woman's son who rose from the bier as was being carried for burial. The Father has committed all judgment unto the Son, for there was a woman of Cannan who followed Jesus, crying out as her daughter was vexed with a devil, though being told that He was being sent only for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Having faith in the Lord Jesus she said she was ready to eat from the floor the fallen crumbs of bread and thus her daughter was healed. (Mat 15:27-28) 

Some that are spiritually dead hear His voice, just as the man who was at the pool of Bethesda for 38 years was given life. (John 5:21-22) In the pool of Bethesda's, in Aramaic “The House of Mercy” the man who had been there couldn’t enter the pool in time to be the first one to be healed when the angel stirred the water. When he was told to rise and take his bed and walk, he stood up and went; not like the others who were healed, who bowed down to Lord Jesus to give Him praise. When Lord Jesus FOUND him in the temple told him to sin no more for, thou art made whole. Being healed on a sabbath day, he should have gone to the temple and showed himself to the priest and offered sacrifices unto God the Father to give Him praise. 

For one to hearken to the voice of the Lord and live a spiritual life one needs to follow the Light of Life, and that is Jesus our savior. When Jesus found the man he said to him, "Sin no more!" What made the Lord Jesus say to him sin no more? Being healed and delivered,he should have followed Jesus to have the “light of life” in his walk. (John 8:12) He was not aware who it was that made him whole again till he was FOUND in the temple and then knew that it was Lord Jesus that made him whole. For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth who he will. (John 5:21) 

Ephesians 2:5-6 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
