As noted in Ephesians 2:8-9, faith is a gift from God, resulting from the Holy Spirit's activity. Therefore, rejection of faith in Christ (for any of the multitude of reasons that the unsaved refuse to believe, or choose not to do so) is equivalent to rejecting the Holy Spirit.

God will not compel people to believe, despite the eternal consequences of not doing so. God has already made the supreme sacrifice on His part through the undeserving death of His own Son to make it possible for anyone to be saved through faith in Him.
