In my opinion, any seeming contradiction between the verses cited in the question can be addressed by considering the type of "load" of which each is speaking.

Galatians 6:2 is speaking of an external load that can be mitigated through the offering of sympathetic words and actions (the figurative sharing of that burden).

Galatians 6:5 is speaking of the responsibility of the Christian to answer to God for his or her own actions -- a "load" that the Christian has imposed on himself or herself, and a responsibility that cannot be "shared" (that is, lessened or mitigated in the case of actions that are deserving of God's punishment) by pointing out that there are others who are worse than oneself.
