In my opinion, to say that all events have a good purpose takes responsibility and accountability away from those who perform actions with evil intent. Although Christians should forgive those perpetrators (as Christ commands them to), they will still be judged for those actions by God unless they repent of them and seek His forgiveness. I would consider it more accurate to say (as noted in Romans 8:28) that God is capable of bringing ultimate good for His followers out of even the worst of such actions that they may experience (although that "good" may not necessarily correspond to what we (who lack God's omnisicence, and who, as mortal beings, are more inclined to think in temporal terms) might think it should be).

In all things God can work and He does work, good and bad. What was meant for a bad event by Joseph’s brothers harming him, God used to bring about tremendous good (Genesis 50:20, the classic or the primary Old Testament illustration of Romans 8:28). Genesis 50:20 says "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive."
