The first thing to do when we believe we may be under a spiritual attack is to determine, as best we can, whether what we are experiencing is truly a spiritual attack from demonic forces or simply ...

1. You must pray fervently.
2. You must not be afraid (1 Timothy 1:7)
3. Always declare or confess good things into your life rather than say bad things (proverbs 18:21) for example: instead of “I am sick" say “I can never be sick" even if you do feel sick.
4. Command the devil to leave you alone because God has made you a King (not a physical one, a spiritual one) revelation 1:6.
5. Have Faith without doubt when praying, commanding, or speaking good things to your life. (Hebrews 11:1)

PRAY. I pray, then I ask believers to pray. Then I do my best to focus on all that God has done on my behalf, past, present and what He has promised for my future. Prayer takes the focus off me and my inability to change circumstances and puts it back where it belongs-on the one who has all power.

1. Be sure you're not living in any known sin, if so repent... 1JOHN 1:8,9. Hebrews 4:16

2. Find Scriptures that promises you victory in the area in question.

3. Meditate on these to saturation point. Joshua 1:8, 1Timothty 4:11-16.

4. Do not fear, but take authority over the situation, and rebuke the devil to back off. James 4:7

5. Speak the word at all times.

6. Dwell on praise mountain. Continue in praises and worship to God.

I agree with S. Michael Houdmann and will simply add this:

Pray for discernment. Like Michael stated, not everything is a Demonic Spiritual Attack.

It can be the cause/effect of living in sinful world.

It could also be the works of your own FLESH!

Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV)

"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, sedition, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

Notice that even Witchcraft - Idolatry - Heresies are all... works of the flesh...

Is it your flesh LUSTING after such things that God has said - NO - too? If it is, then all the " casting down in Jesus Name " will do N O T H I N G.... for it is your own lust and flesh going after these things....

This takes Prayer - Fasting - Repentance and removing that " lust " from your life.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. (Proverbs 3:5-8)

Pray; but likewise seek Scripture's revelation to identify the source of these spiritual attacks. Knowledge is often a healer that dispels undue worry and critical thoughts that border on paranoia. Not discounting that 'the Lord works in mysterious ways' the Holy Spirit may likewise allow special insight into these matters through prayer, counsel, circumstances, dreams, impressions, etc.

The sad thing is this: these spiritual attacks may sometimes stem from cryptic prayers of fellow believers. Let alone Job's comforters, Balaam and the Psalmists, are not the epistles likewise littered with contentions between the saints? What more then of the civil strife between members of the body of Christ along denominational lines, doctrines, creeds, nuances (etc.), apart from the pressing issues at home, the secular workplace, school and more? Seriously, how does one make of those intercessory prayers made by some in church and cell groups?

Thanks be to God then for our Savior, mediator and advocate - Christ Jesus!
