Many skeptics accuse the Bible of being pro-slavery. But it is not. The Bible does acknowledge that due to man's sinful and selfish nature, he enslaves others to do his work for him. But here is an interesting verse: Deuteronomy 23:15 states that if a slave escapes, we are not to return him to his master. Paul also encourages those who can get out of slavery to do so (1Corinthians 7:21).

The leading form of human trafficking is sexual exploitation. It is sin to have sex outside of marriage (1 Corinthians 7:2) -- "...because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband." --Satan just LOVES to tempt us husband and wife partners to seek our satisfaction elsewhere. Hebrews 13:4 The Message Bible says, "Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex." I have been asked at work a few times, "Is sex outside of marriage sin?" And I always quote the aforementioned Hebrews 13:4. It is a sin to rape anyone (Deuteronomy 22:25-27). There is nothing about prostitution that is biblical, but sex trafficking is like rape. Human trafficking is basically kidnapping with chattel slavery. Most of the slavery spoken of in the Old Testament was indentured servitude, wherein a person could sell their labor for seven years in order to fulfill a debt. Chattel slavery is the ownership of a person. It is kidnapping, which is severely condemned by the Bible. Exodus 21:16 says, "Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death." This covers the first part of the definition: recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt. Human trafficking is absolutely unbiblical, and Bible-believing Christians are working to end it. Christ-followers should follow Jesus in proclaiming liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners (Isaiah 61:1-3).
