Trust in anything is based on either the authority of it, or its record of reliability. God is worthy of our trust for both of those reasons.

First, He is the ultimate source of being -- not just for humanity, but for the entire universe. If it were not for His activity, we would not be here to even ask the question that is being posed. He testifies to His continued presence and involvement through the orderly working of that universe, and in the inborn and universal human conscience or sense of right and wrong.

Beyond that, He gave a record of His reliability through a written account of historical events in which He has been involved; through the accurate foretelling of future events far in advance of their occurrence; and through insights into His nature, and into human character and behavior, that are in agreement with both reason and personal experience.

Most specifically, He also chose one particular people through whom He eventually manifested Himself in the form of a human whose life, supernatural acts (including His eternal defeat of death through His own resurrection), fulfillment of prior prophecy, and subsequent impact on history have also been authenticated by a written record, and who enables the fulfillment of the desire of humans for life and meaning beyond their earthly existence.

Bases for trust in God

We can trust His power and strength (2Timothy 1:12. Compare Psalm 9:9f).

We can trust in His lovingkindness (His unbreakable or unfailing love) Psalm 33:18 "Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy" (KJV).

We can trust in God’s salvation Isaiah 12:2. Compare Psalm 40:2-3.
