What did Jesus mean when He spoke of worldwide preaching in Matthew 24:14?

Revelation 7:2-8 says God will elect and seal 144,000 Jewish evangelists who will take the kingdom message to the ends of the earth (cf. The "harvest" in Revelation 7:9, 14). One understanding is that the 144,000 are recently converted Jewish evangelists sent out to bring sinners to Jesus Christ during the seven-year tribulation period. I am a futurist with regard to my interpretive approach to the book of Revelation. It is the Lord's coming at the end of the age that is foreseen here."

In my opinion, this comment of Jesus referred to the Roman world of that time, rather than to the world as we know it today, similar to the later reference in the text of Luke's gospel to Caesar Augustus issuing a decree that "all the world" should be taxed (Luke 2:1). I base this on the fact of Jesus making the comment to the apostles "privately" (as noted in Matthew 24:3), rather than to the public as a whole; the comment being made in the context of the apostles' admiration of the buildings in the area of the temple that Herod the Great had built (which would be destroyed when the Romans pillaged Jerusalem in AD 70), and Jesus telling those whom He was addressing (rather than speaking to Christendom as a whole) that "they will deliver 'you' up to tribulation and put 'you' to death, and 'you' will be hated by all nations for My name's sake." By the time Jerusalem was destroyed, the gospel message had indeed been disseminated to the world as it was known at that time.

I believe the fulfillment of Jesus' statement (prophecy), is found in Revelation 14:6 "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people." This is the last and final chance for those on the earth to escape God's judgment and receive salvation through Jesus Christ.
