Is it possible to ask God for too much?

Considering all the challenges in one's life at any one moment that need God's attention, is it possible for one to ask God for too much?

John 14:13 - 14

ESV - 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

In my opinion, it is never possible to ask God for too much, in the sense either of it being somehow impossible for God to grant what we are asking for based on the "size" of our requests, or because of the frequency with which we make those requests. He never grows "tired" or exasperated of sincere requests, and we should never let a fear or apprehension of such a response on His part deter us from prayer. (Paul told the Thessalonians to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).)

At the same time, the Bible indicates the possibility of the prayers of Christians not being answered for a variety of reasons, such as praying from purely selfish motives (James 4:2-3); unconfessed sin in the life of the person praying (Isaiah 9:1-2); unresolved relationship issues (Mark 11:25); lack of faith (James 1:6-8); lack of sufficient persistence in prayer (James 5:17); or unwillingness to accept God's response or will based on His omniscience, and His knowledge of the "big picture" (Romans 9:15-16). So we should strive to eliminate those considerations from our prayer lives.

On a more positive note, God may also respond in a way that is even better or greater than what we are asking for, and that may not even occur to us at the time that we pray.
