Following up on a comment made by David Robinson and the excellent thoughts of M. Houdmann, I would also think, if we are created in God's image, we would have a triune aspect to our being.

Hopefully, not being accused of being a modalist, I can see scripture pointing to this direction. Until one becomes born again[ John 3:3 ] your spirit is dead, as related to God.Thus your soul, the mind, and emotions control the body with total carnal or worldly thoughts and actions.

When one is born again from above, the spirit is infused by and with The Holy Spirit, thus bringing about a whole new way of thinking and perceiving everything. As [ Romans 12:2 ] says one can be transformed by renewing of their mind, and stop conforming to worldly thoughts and actions.

So, the spirit is changed, affecting the soul, or the mind and emotions, which directs the actions of the body. The new power by the indwelling of The Holy Spirit brings one back in line with God, relationally and directionally.

Glory to our Father, to our Lord and Savior and to our indweller, comforter, and director, The Holy Spirit.
