Most people understand hope as wishful thinking, as in "I hope something will happen." This is not what the Bible means by hope. The biblical definition of hope is "confident expectation." Hope is ...

Hope is found all through scripture. All of the promises of God are to us who believe on Jesus as the only way of salvation by grace. First Corinthians 15:1-4 Five words. Five is grace. Christ died for our sins. That is why we know we are going to heaven when we die. We have no sins to pay for. John 3:18 We can no longer be condemned because we have believed.

John 6:37 He will never cast us out. John 6:39 He has never lost one. John 10:28-29 He gives us eternal life, and no one can pluck us from His hand.

Second Timothy 2:13 If we believe not, He abideth faithful, He can not deny himself.

First John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doeth not commit sin, for His seed, (the Holy Spirit) remaineth in him, and He can not sin, because he is born of God. The Holy Spirit that lives in the believer can not sin. He is our sinless perfection before God.

We know we have eternal life, because Jesus died for all our sins and gave us His righteousness. Romans 4:6-8 He imputes His righteousness to us, and will no more impute sin to our account.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace ye are saved, through Faith, and that not of yourselves, It is the GIFT of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.

Salvation is a free GIFT from God whereby Jesus paid our sin debt in full. Jesus paid it all an we paid 0. It is a free GIFT.

First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye MAY KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.

First John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world. So anyone can believe and be saved. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me HATH EVERLAISTING LIFE.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but is passed from death unto life.

We have been born again by the Spirit of God. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also after ye believed, ye were sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise. BORN AGAIN> BORN OF GOD.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the children of God, EVEN TO THEM THAT BELEIVE ON HIS NAME.

Romans 11:6 It is all grace, not works, if it was by works, it would not longer be grace, and if by grace it is no more works. Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believe on Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith, apart from the deeds of the law. Jesus fulfilled the law for us and gives us His righteousness..

Our hope is found in Him who loved us and gave Himself for us a ransom for all who have believed on Him as the only way of salvation by grace.

His one blood sacrifice for all sin forever. AMAZING GRACE, JESUS PAID IT ALL AND WE PAID 0, IT IS FREE.

Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and His righteousness.

I'm glad you asked, the Christian's hope, is to live for the Lord daily, continuing to read and studying his word, be faithful to God, and his church, be strong in the Lord and his power, and on top of that, love everybody, be ready, when Jesus comes.

The. CHRISTIAN hope is summarized by Jesus’ words in the following scriptures:

“ In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever” (John 3:15 AMP).

“ For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life”. (John 3:16 AMP).

Therefore, those who believe in, and cling to Jesus are assured of gaining everlasting life. That is the Christian hope. The scriptures do not promise an easy life now for Christians. They have a battle to fight in this life- against inherited sinful tendencies, against the wicked, against the demons and even Satan. But the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ, whom they are following as disciples, gives the Christian the courage and strength (by means of the Holy Spirit), to fight those battles and win.

But we need to understand the basis for this hope. All humans became children of wrath as a result of the happenings in the garden of Eden. Humankind chose to reject rulership by God and accept rulership by Satan. The kingdoms of the world have been controlled by Satan. Thus life on earth has been cruel and full of trouble, pain and sorrow for virtually everyone, in line with Genesis 3:17-19. Job summarises it all as follows: “ Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not (Job 14:1-2 KJV)

But thanks to God for putting arrangements in place to rescue mankind by means of the Seed of the Woman, Genesis 3:15, Jesus Christ. Mankind lost the right to everlasting life on earth, (which God gave to mankind as a fully equipped home), through Adam; but God purposes to return that right to life on the earth by means of a Saviour and Ransomer, Jesus. Any who loves life and desire to live forever has to exercise faith in Jesus.

Jesus has another role to fulfil in God’s eternal purpose on behalf of mankind. Prophets of old, DANIEL and Isaiah in particular spoke about the determination of God to set up a kingdom, or a government, in heaven, DANIEL 2:44. This kingdom will destroy all human kingdoms or governments, and will take over rulership of the earth from them, ousting their master, Satan. The kingdom of this world will then be ruled over by Jesus (Rev 11:15; Isaiah 9:6,7; Dan 7:13,14). Jesus, as King, will head a government that will rule over the earth and bring peace, justice and righteousness to the earth. He will have subjects over all the earth, who will live forever and obey and serve him, Rev 21:2-4).

1. My hope encourages me, a Christian. John 14:3 Jesus said this to discouraged disciples, discouraged by his departure, encouraged by his return. Whenever I am discouraged and lonely, I can be encouraged by His promised return for me. He solidly promised, “When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

2. It is a comforting hope(1 Thess. 4:13-18) so I am to be comforted. Michael said, “[By contrast], those who do not place their trust in God are said to be without hope (Ephesians 2:12, 1 Thessalonians 4:13).”

When Jesus returns for His own,
And carries us up to His throne,
There’ll be no more sadness,
But all will be gladness,
When Jesus returns for His own.

--hymn by Herbert Buffum

3. And it’s a motivating hope for me. 1 Cor. 15:50-58 Knowing that resurrection body will be obtained through death or translation, that labor isn’t fruitless, be steadfast in commitment to Christ and diligent in service for Christ. (v. 58).

"Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun;
Let us talk of all his wondrous love and care.
Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there." (Jas. Black)

4. My Christian hope purifies me. 1 John 3:2-3 Michael said, Hope of Christians … is the future hope of the transformation into the likeness of Christ (1 John 3:2-3).
See the context of 1 John 3 (1 John 3:1-3 (NLT) - "See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.

The KJV puts it this way: "1 John 3:3
"And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure."

He also said, “Hope in the return of Christ is the basis for believers to purify themselves in this life (Titus 2:11-14, 1 John 3:3).” The effect my hope has on me? I must be careful (1 John 3:1-2).

“We shall be like Him,” the Son of God most holy,
“We shall be like Him,” sweet promise of His grace!
Christian, press forward! Some bright, some glad tomorrow
“We shall be like Him,” for we shall see His face.

Refrain

We shall be like Him, we shall be like Him,
For we shall see Him as He is;
We shall be like Him, we shall be like Him,
For we shall see Him as He is. (Kate L. Colby)
