Why did Jesus ask them, "Why make ye this ado, and weep?" when He already knew what they were thinking?

Mark 5:39

KJV - 39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

I would say that Jesus knew what the mourners were weeping about, just as He also knew why the mourners at Lazarus' tomb were weeping (John 11:33). But I would also say that he spoke the words cited in the question to those who were mourning Jairus' daughter to give them an alternative perspective of the situation from God's point of view and through the eyes of faith -- the same perspective that He had earlier imparted to Jairus in Mark 5:26 and Luke 8:50 -- and just as He told Martha in John 11:23-24 that Lazarus would rise again -- even though Martha also (mis)interpreted the statement to be referring to the resurrection at the end of the age. And, just as Jesus corrected Martha's understanding (John 11:25-26), he gave a concrete demonstration of the meaning of His words in the case of Jairus' daughter by raising her from the dead.

Because they were weeping over a sleeping child, not a dead child as they thought. Jesus wanted them to have faith and believe.
