What can we learn from Hezekiah's prayer in 2 Kings 19:14-19?

Hezekiah's Prayer

14 Hezekiah received n the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord. 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said: "O Lord, the God of Israel, o enthroned above the cherubim, p you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. 16 q Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; r open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent s to mock the living God. 17 Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands 18 and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were not gods, t but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed. 19 So now, O Lord our God, save us, please, from his hand, u that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that p you, O Lord, are God alone." (ESV)

If we read a bit more in the chapter, we see that God sent a messenger to Hezekiah. He tells Hezekiah that he heard him.

In 2 Chronicles 32:20, we see Hezekiah praying again. In the same chapter in verse 24, Hezekiah prayed yet again.

In the book of Isaiah, chapter 37:15, Hezekiah prayed to the Lord of hosts, God of Israel. God answered in verse 21.

Isaiah is sent to Hezekiah in chapter 38, when Hezekiah prayed.

The lesson in all this I believe is that Hezekiah's trust in the Lord was demonstrated by his prayers. He prayed and God answered! God honored his trust and loyalty. His faith was what God was looking for.

Then, as now, God looks for us to trust Him. He is demonstrating that He hears us and knows us.

In 2 Kings 20, the Lord God says, "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you!" (vs. 5)

God hears and sees us! God has compassion for us! He loves us!
