The Temple Musicians
31 These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the Lord after the ark came to rest there. 32 They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. I would say that the mentioning of the fact that these men were musicians was just intended to indicate their specific function within the priestly tribe of Levi as a whole, whose genealogy is covered in Chapter 6. (As far as I can tell, the substantive part of the passage deals only with three individuals (Heman, Asaph, and Ethan). What makes the passage so lengthy is the tracing of the respective genealogies of those men back to Jacob's son Levi, who was the founder of the whole tribe.)

The leadership of music was the specific task or ministry associated with the worship of God that they were assigned within the tribe, as opposed to other members of the tribe who served as priests, or who performed other logistical or support functions associated with the maintenance of the tabernacle or (later) the temple, and with the religious life of Israel as a whole.
