Why is the life of Christ not mentioned in the scriptures between the ages of 12-30?

I would say, first, that it was because God did not inspire the writers of the gospels to include that information. From the standpoint of human reasoning, I would say that no particular incidents occurred that were sufficiently significant (that is, that God wanted Christians to know about) with respect to the message that Jesus would later convey in His teaching and preaching, or in relation to His mission to die an atoning death for the sins of humanity. Neither Matthew nor Luke, despite their apparent knowledge of the details surrounding Jesus' birth (which would seem to indicate a personal acquaintance with Jesus' mother Mary), were guided to include any such information in their accounts. The one incident that Luke did include indicates that Jesus was always aware of His identity as the Son of God, in a way that His earthly father and even His mother apparently did not fully grasp (Luke 2:50). Also, perhaps the very lack of any other information was intended by God to reflect how "ordinary" Jesus' life was up until the beginning of His public ministry (to the point that, after He had begun His ministry, the residents of Nazareth largely rejected Him and even sought to kill Him (Matthew 13:53-58; Mark 6:1-6; Luke 4:16-30)), as a means of emphasizing His true humanity and His ability to fully identify and be "one" with those whom He was born to redeem (Hebrews 4:15), including those who are themselves undeservedly shunned by others.

The Bible is not meant to be a history book, except the history that matters...man's creation as perfect, man's fall into sin, God's redemption plan through the sacrifice of his perfect son, Jesus. Therefore, the only details we need are those which will complete the story of our Redemption. The Bible is not written to satisfy our curiosity about Jesus's childhood, or any other details that are unimportant to the overall story of our salvation.
