IMO...any teaching has to line up with Scripture...if anything is said that doesn't line up with what the Bible teaches or is some 'new' or different interpretation that has been 'revealed' to the teacher, then it's not going to be from the Spirit.

I just found the Quest Study Bible in our public library system so I checked it out. Their answer is as follows:

“Spirit-led teachings are recognizable because:

(1) They reinforce all the things Jesus taught (John 14:26) – “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

(2) They are grounded in the written Word of God, which itself is a word inspired and directed by the Spirit (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21 KJV);

2 Timothy 3:15-17 15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

2 Peter 1:20-21 20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

(3) They (the Spirit-led teachings) promote righteousness and convict us of sin (John 16:8—“And when he comes, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment”); and

(4) They bring glory to Jesus (John 16:14, as you cited, sir)

“He [the Holy Spirit] shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” and

(5) They recognize the deity of Jesus (1 John 4:2)”

“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.”

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

The Holy Spirit can help us in the same way. As we study the Bible, we can trust him to plant truth in our minds, convince us of God's will, and remind us when we stray from it.
