I would say that the detestable practices being referred to continued to be the same actions that the Canaanites had performed prior to Israel's entry into the Promised Land following the exodus from Egypt.

As enumerated by Moses in various passages from the books of Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy, these included human sacrifice (including children), sorcery, divination, communication with evil spirits, incest, and acts of sexual promiscuity or indecency.
