Why did Jesus give Judas a morsel of bread to identify him as the betrayer?

What is the significance of Jesus giving Judas a morsel of bread to identify him as the one who would betray him? John 13:26. Why did He not just simply point him out ? They were asking who would betray Him while they had communion of the bread and wine. What is the Spirit trying to tell us by Jesus giving Judas a morsel of bread?

I would say that Jesus took this action as fulfillment of Psalm 41:9, just as other aspects of His Passion fulfilled other prophecies in the psalms (particularly Psalm 22).

Also, Jesus might have avoided identifying Judas as his betrayer more overtly or verbally (that is, in a way that would have been obvious to the other apostles) as a gesture of mercy, to allow Judas an opportunity to abandon or repent of his planned course of action (with the apostles never having been aware of it), while at the same time nevertheless making clear to Judas that He was aware of Judas' intent (as indicated by His words, "What you are going to do, do quickly."), which Judas would have understood, but the other apostles did not (John 13:28-30).
