In my opinion, although it might possibly be contended that violent video games are preferable as a release for negative feelings and energy that might otherwise be directed against other people, they still immerse the player's mind and emotions (by the player's own choice) in a simulated "real-world" environment involving actions of destruction that run contrary to the command to love one's neighbor as oneself, which is one of the two great commandments of God's law (Mark 12:28-34).

As such (it seems to me), such exposure could, over time, at least desensitize the player to such actions in daily life, and make their thoughts and conduct in practice less averse to violence than they should be.

Sin always begins in the mind (James 1:14-16). The Bible also urges believers to guard their hearts (Proverbs 4:23), and (as Paul said) to take every thought captive so that it conforms to the will of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Rather than violence (as again noted by Paul, who had previously been a man of great violence toward Christians), the focus of the follower of Christ should be on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, gracious, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8).
