Aside from the advisability (if possible) for you as a Christian of becoming affiliated with a local congregation that reflects your beliefs, I would say that there are sure to be organizations (both church-related and secular) in almost any community of any size that both use and need volunteers to assist with charitable or philanthropic acts to serve a wide variety of existing needs (such as food collection and distribution; providing shelter or transportation; accomplishing needed errands; or performing simple acts of visiting and providing human companionship -- in short, the kinds of actions noted by Jesus in passages such as Matthew 25:31-40).

Such organizations on a national level would include groups such as the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, the United Way, and many others. A Google (or other search engine) search for "charitable (or volunteer) organizations in (any named city)" is sure to produce multiple results. (Such a search in my own community yields 1.5 million responses.)

Also, consider whether you might have special individual skills, talents, abilities, hobbies, or life experience that would be of particular use to such groups in helping the people whom they serve.

Financial contributions to such groups (apart from donating personal time or talents) are another means of providing needed support.

And, for Christians, devoted or dedicated periods of prayer for areas of concern are a powerful tool that God has provided, and that can be practiced anytime or anywhere, whether in solitude or with others (Acts 12:5; James 5:16).
