✿ Romans is first in order of the epistles, both doctrinally and in canonical order, and rightly so, for it contains the fundamentals of Christian education. ✿ Until its lessons are learned we are ignorant of true Christian principles. It is the very foundation of church teaching, and if we are wrong in understanding here we shall be wrong elsewhere. ✿ The great theme is the revelation of God's wrath against sin, and the righteousness through faith as the grounds of justification. Romans makes the whole world guilty before God and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ. ✿ The prominent feature is the long doctrinal section (Rom. 1:16--Rom. 8:39). God's method of dealing with Jews and Gentiles individually is pictured in this doctrinal section, and their relationship dispensationally is given in Rom. 9:1--Rom. 11:36. ✿ The rest (Rom. 12:1--Rom. 16:27) is practical, showing the result of salvation.

Paul most likely wrote Romans in the Greek city of Cenchreae, in the early months of A.D. 58. Although the letter is addressed to the 1st century Roman Christian Church for a specific reason, its principles are just as relevant today as they were back then. The letter to Romans primarily deals with the age-old question: “How is a person saved?” While visiting the Galatian churches, Paul discovered that during his absence false teachers had convinced the members that in order to be saved they have to submit to circumcision and keep some elements of Moses’ law. Afraid that these teachings would reach Rome before his arrival, Paul wrote the Romans letter trying to prevent the same happening in Rome. The main truth that Paul is addressing in Romans is that we are justified by faith alone and we are saved only in the righteousness of Christ. It is a righteousness credited to us by faith, a righteousness granted to us apart from the keeping of the law (Rom 3:28). “The Epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel, and is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, by heart, but occupy himself with it every day, as the daily bread of the soul.”-Martin Luther, Commentary on Romans

I would term Romans as the Genesis Letter of the New Testament Gospel. Paul set forth in the very first of the Letter exactly the devolution of man away from the True God unto false worship and the spiritual devastation that reaped moral and physical decay.Romans 1:18-32. The Good News is Romans 1:15-16.God provided a way back to Him. Paul goes on to bring an academic and judicial breakdown of theology throughout the letter. There is a path laid out in Romans back to God.[1] All mankind are sinners Romans 3:23.[2] The result of sin is death Romans 6:23. [3] God provided salvation while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8. [4] God promise of redemption.Romans 8:21. [5] How to be redeemed Romans 10:8-10.[6] God's promise Romans 10:11-12. [7] The result Salvation.Romans 10:13. Man left God, God sought man and came down to man. God provided Himself the Sacrifice. It is the Genesis of the Gospel in the Book of Romans.
