How did King David die?
1 Kings 2:10 - 12
NKJV - 10 So David rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David. 11 The period that David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.

We read about ❶ Reign and death of David (2Sam. 2:1--1Ki. 2:11) ❷ Records of the life of King David (1Sam. 16:1--1Ki. 2:11) King David died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead. Apparently, David and several other kings of Israel became old prematurely because of the hard life they lived in war and stress. (1Chr. 29:26) Technically, David reigned 40 years and 6 months--7 years and 6 months (7.5 years) in Hebron over Judah and 33 years over all Israel and Judah (2Sam. 5:4-5; 1Chr.29:26). How old he was when he took Abishag as his last wife. He was 70 years old (1Ki. 1:1-4), being 30 when he began to reign for 40 years (2Sam. 5:4) David lived about 25,568 days, which was nothing compared to what God's plan was when man was created. God intended he should live eternally and never grow old, but sin caused man to "come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). How long David lived after making Solomon king isn't stated, but when he drew near death, he gave a final charge to the new king (1Ki. 2:1-9; cp. Josh. 1:6-9).

According to the Bible (1 Kings 1-2), David was seventy years old when he died, which (even today) would be considered an appropriate age for death by "natural causes" (that is, the normal process of aging). Toward the end of his life, he was apparently confined to bed because of his age, and that was where he died. (The Bible speaks of him being unable to keep warm during this time, no matter how many covers were placed on him (which, to me, might indicate a circulatory problem of some kind, although the Bible does not specifically say that). So David's servants found a young woman (Abishag the Shunammite) to lie with him in his bed to keep him warm, although the Bible states specifically that he did not have sexual relations with her.)
