What does the Bible say about being generous and giving to people in need when I have debts to pay?

If I have debts to pay, is it acceptable for me to be giving to people in need?

Matthew 5:42

NKJV - 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

Regardless of what people say, there is no requirement to tithe, although if you do you will never regret it.

One reason is you will pay less in taxes to our federal government, which is run by wealthy self-serving politicians that say one thing and do another. Sure, there are a few doing well for us in some cases and situations, but overall their handling of our money is bad.

Giving to get or buy God's favor is impossible to achieve. If you are in Christ everything is given freely and openly before men. The blessings of God will overtake you because you love the Lord your God with all your heart mind [will and emotions] soul and body.

You worship him above all else. He is in first placed in your life. You honor him by obeying his word and loving your neighbors as you do yourself. That isn't always easy, but life is not easy either.

Giving as God guides you to give should be your priority. That can be heard if you truly take time to listen. I have tithed and had little, yet had much. I have tithed when I had much and all was taken away.

Materialism in this world is our biggest enemy. Do you really need a new car or just want a new car? Do you really need a new pair of shoes or just want a temporary fix for a scratch to spend frivolously?

Tipping the waitress who earns a very low wage is a good place to start. Buying gifts for friends, acquaintances, and family members ought to be high on the list.

Supporting your local church with money, time and talents should be a part of your christian walk, but how many of the churches allow you to use your talents? Well, you can be sure they're going to be controlling because a few bad apples spoil it for everyone else.

Being generous is a part of christianity. You give out of a pure motive. You get back more than you give because God's generousity always trumps your own.

But you have a responsibility to pay your debts and manage all that the good Lord blessed you with. Why should he bless you with a better material item if you don't take care of what you already have?

Learn to appreciate and be thankful for all that you have now, and then the Lord will see that you're mature enough to handle even more. That is what I see in my walk with the Lord. I am abundantly blessed and I love to give, but with wisdom.
