As a three-month-old baby, Moses had been placed in an ark (boat) made of bulrushes by his parents, and set afloat in the Nile River, to save him from the decree of the Egyptian ruler (the Pharaoh) that all newborn Hebrew (Jewish) male babies were to be killed (Exodus 1:15-2:3). He was found by Pharaoh's daughter, who had gone down to the river to bathe. 

Moses' older sister (Miriam) was watching nearby to see what would happen to him. When she saw that Pharaoh's daughter had found the baby, had taken pity on him, and would not kill him, she told Pharaoh's daughter that she would find a Hebrew woman (who was actually her own mother, as well as Moses' mother) who would act as a nurse for the baby on behalf of Pharaoh's daughter. (However, Pharaoh's daughter was apparently not aware of this relationship.) 

Moses then stayed in his parents' household for an unspecified period of time, and his own father and mother cared for him. However, before Moses was fully grown (Exodus 2:10-11), they returned him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he was then raised as part of Pharaoh's household.

(However, he apparently stayed with his birth parents long enough to know that he himself was Jewish by birth, and to learn about God's previous dealings with the nation of Israel. It was this knowledge that led him (after he was fully grown) to kill an Egyptian man whom he had seen beating a Hebrew, as well as to intervene in a subsequent dispute between two Hebrews (Exodus 2:11-15).)
