What do the thorns symbolize in Isaiah 27:4?
In the amplified version it elaborates by comparing the "briers and thorns" to a "wicked internal foe".
Isaiah 27:4
ESV - 4 I have no wrath. Would that I had thorns and briers to battle! I would march against them, I would burn them up together.

In my opinion, God is saying that, at a future time (that is, after the time of Isaiah) when God has completed the punishment of His people (His figurative vineyard) and He is no longer angry with them (that is, when the vineyard is once again fruitful), He would dare anyone (to me, whether internal or external) who wants to cause thorns and briars to grow within that vineyard (that is, to harm His people, or to cause them to fall back into sin) to even try to be successful. Those enemies will find that God will set out against them and will destroy them, just as thorns and briars are gathered and burned by the keepers of a vineyard.
