According to my John MacArthur Study Bible, the Glorious Land was identified in Daniel 8:9 as Palestine (Israel). The king who will stand in it as the cruel king of the North was the Syrian persecutor of Israel, Antiochus IV Epiphanes. See also Dan 8:9 and Dan 11:41.

Daniel 8:9 "And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land." (KJV)

"The pleasant land" of Daniel 8:9, according to my Ryrie Study Bible, is Palestine. Compare Daniel 11:16, 41.

The Prophet Ezekiel called the land of Israel "the glory of all lands" (Ezekiel 20:6, 15), which the NIV translates "the most beautiful of all lands."

Daniel 8:9 "Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land."

Daniel calls it "the pleasant land" (Daniel 8:9) and "the glorious land" (Daniel 11:16, 41).

Another commentator says, “The beautiful land is Jerusalem (see Ezek 20:6, 15).” Having been there myself, I can certainly say that it is beautiful. We slept in Jerusalem at the Institute of Holy Land Studies.

A third commentator says this about Daniel 8:9 -- “toward the pleasant land—Judea, “the glorious land” (Da 11:16, 41, 45; compare Ps 48:2; Ez 20:6, 15). Its chief pleasantness consists in its being God’s chosen land (Ps 132:13; Je 3:19). Into it, Antiochus made his inroad after his return from Egypt.
