For the unsaved, or those who reject God, fear of Him relates mainly to the judgment and eternal punishment that awaits them after this earthly life as a result of their failure to avail themselves of the means of salvation and eternal life that God has provided to humanity -- that is, faith in Christ (Luke 12:4-5). 

For those who believe in God, and are trusting in Christ for their salvation, fearing God does not refer to having a sense of dread or coming wrath with regard to Him, but viewing Him and acting toward Him with a mixture of respect, obedience, submission, and reverential, awe-filled worship.

He is worthy of all those responses because He is infinite in power and majesty, and is immeasurably greater than we are; because of the believer's gratitude for His love and mercy in making eternal life possible through faith in Christ (even though humanity had universally rebelled against Him, and rightfully deserved only punishment and separation from Him); and because He wills and wants only the best for those whom He has loved and redeemed.

Good question. And the bible has a clear and simple answer. I would advise you to pray and ask for the Holy Spirit leading because he can guide you into all truth John 16:13. 

Let's start by looking at Psalms 34:11. Here the Lord says to His children that He teach them what "the fear of the LORD." is. In verse 13 it explains what it is: Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile." Verse 14 "Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." Fearing the Lord is departing from evil and if you Fear God you will keep His commandments. 

Let's look at some more text in Deuteronomy 5:29 it reads "O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!" and here are other text: Deut 6:2; 13:4; Ecc 12:13.

Let's look at another example to help what is the fear of God. Read Romans 3:11-18. These verses are talking about the evilness of those who are cursing, killing, no one is doing good, and using deceit and then verse 18 tells you why and it reads "There is no fear of God before their eyes." This is why is says in Proverbs 8:13 which tells you the exact meaning of what does it mean to fear God. "The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate." and then in the next chapter Proverbs 9:10 it says "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." So when you fear God you do depart from evil and then you will start to understand God ways' for more on this read Proverbs 2.

Lastly, I want to share that this is very important because it is one of the last warnings given to this world before Jesus comes back the second. It is part of what is called "The Three Angels Messages" which you will find in Revelation 14:6-12. It is the part of the first angel message which starts in (Read verse 6), but in verse 7 it says "Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgement is come: and worship that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters." Notice it start off by saying it with a LOUD VOICE meaning it is something we must listen to and hearken. There is so much here in these verses but God is calling us to fear Him which is to depart from evil. I pray this has been a blessing to you and to help you study further God's word.
