What was the necessity of having the two choirs mentioned in Nehemiah 12?

ESV - 38 The other choir of those who gave thanks went to the north, and I followed them with half of the people, on the wall, above the Tower of the Ovens, to the Broad Wall.

I have no specific Scriptural support for this, but perhaps the use of two choirs was meant to evoke memories of the ritual that the people of Israel were commanded by Moses to perform in Deuteronomy 27:11-26 (prior to the original conquest of the Promised Land), where, once they had completed the conquest of the Promised Land, the people of six of the tribes of Israel were to stand on Mount Gerizim to pronounce blessings, and the other six tribes were to stand opposite them on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses (except that, with regard to the return to Jerusalem, there was to be only rejoicing, and no pronouncing of curses). (I suggest this because it seems to me that the return to Jerusalem that occurred in Nehemiah would have been reminiscent for those who returned of Israel's initial entry into the Promised Land.)
