The true meaning of 1Corinthians 2:9," But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him," can be found in the verse which immediately follows in 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 which reads:

".But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." 

So there you have it. The bible clearly tells us that as believers God has revealed spiritual truths to us through our spiritual senses that the natural world cannot perceive. 

Take for instance having the knowledge of Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The natural man cannot perceive such a truth. Recall how it states in verse 12 "that we might know the things that are "freely'Given by God!" Those things which are freely given by God is spiritual knowledge and wisdom of God himself and his holy word.

We as Christians have spiritual preceptors to the TRUTH which is in Christ Jesus. Now of course the is much more to God than meets our present spiritual senses and those things will be revealed in full when we meet him face to face. For now we see through a glass darkly but for now, that which he has freely given us to perceive at the present time is still a true blessing. Have you not heard that Jesus is Lord and believed? Have you not seen and acknowledged all of his beautiful works all around which others deny and give credit to science or other sources?

Therefore, you have been given a spiritual awareness of the blessings and graces of God that the natural man cannot perceive. It is written: "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:14)

It is truly a fact that we, as finite human beings with limited understanding, cannot fathom the beauty and awesomeness of heaven in our own limited minds. God has, however, because of His wonderful love for us, allowed many people to see visions of heaven. I, for one, have had visions of the seraphim and cherubim flying around the throne of God, giving glory and praise to Him who is seated on His throne next to God the Father. One can just imagine the beauty of heaven when you see a rainbow during a summer rain, with it’s awesome colors shining through the raindrops. Revelation also gives us a look into the beauty of the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven to the earth with it’s streets of gold, all of the gates made of pearls, and it’s foundation made of precious stones of unimaginable beauty. Just to look into the heavens at night one can see just a glimpse of what the Lord has in store for His children!

I think that Paul is just saying that what awaits believers in God's presence in eternity is wonderful beyond any description. (Although Paul was certainly adept with words -- as shown in his epistles -- he said that the image of heaven that he had received from God following his conversion was inexpressible (2 Corinthians 12:1-4).) It will be ultimate and total fulfillment, beyond the greatest joy that we have experienced, or can even think of, in this life.
