In my opinion, many Biblical verses encourage persistence and determination, but it is in the context of God's involvement in the situation -- such as remaining steadfast in faith or prayer in the pursuit of a given objective -- rather than relying purely on one's own strength or effort.

The first passage that came to my mind was Jesus' story of the persistent widow and the unrighteous judge (Luke 18:1-8). Even though the judge would normally allow no one to tell him what to do, he granted the widow's request just so he would be free of her continual pestering. Jesus said that, if even such an evil person could be influenced by human tenacity, then a loving God would be even more willing and expeditious to help those who asked him. 

Jesus also said that, if a person had even the smallest amount of genuine faith, he would be able to tell a mountain to pick itself up and cast itself into the sea, and it would obey him (Mark 11:23).

Paul repeatedly enjoined those to whom he addressed his epistles to exhibit a similar determination in their faith, telling them to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and to "not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9) 

"Be faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor's crown." (Revelation 2:10)

"Always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." (Ephesians 6:18)

"We want each of you to show the same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized." (Hebrews 6:11)

"Stand firm and you will win life." (Luke 21:19)

The Bible also indicates that, if God is not involved in or approving of an undertaking, no amount of human effort will make it succeed. (Psalm 127:1-2).
