The Bible says The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple-- Psalm 19:7 The Bible also says that we don't know sin without the law showing us what sin is-- Romans 7:7 Jesus says that not a single element of the law will be done away with, but that He came to fulfill the law Matthew 5:17 (in fact raise it to a higher standard in the Sermon on the Mount Matthew 5-7 where hatred is murder, lust is adultery, etc. Which shows God judges the heart.

So for sharing the gospel, I did evangelism training with Way of the Master which uses the law to get the person to not think of themselves as a good person-- for ALL have sinned and there is NO ONE righteous. This allows the soil of the heart to be prepared for the seed of the gospel--plowed and broken up if you will-- see parable of the soils in Matthew 13. Showing the person their sin (and admitting yours) gives them the bad news before they can see their need for the Good News.

The Holy Spirit has to give them conviction of their grievous sins and lost condition so they will be yearning for repentance and cleansing by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and believe that He IS God, was sinless, is the only way to know God, took the wrath of God for our sin on Him and was raised from the dead (defeating Satan and death) so that we may live not only in heaven, but here on earth to love Him because He first loved us(Greatest Commandment-Matt 22) and tell others (Great Commission- Matt 28:18-20).

So many people have been told about Jesus & may go to church having a head knowledge of who He is, but the law gets to the heart to give repentance and faith which is a supernatural work of God--faith alone by Christ alone-- to make a person born again (John 3). I don't say the sinner's prayer because it is not in the Bible. I don't tell anyone that they are saved just because they say they believe. Even the demons believe and tremble-- James 2:19.

I tell them that godly sorrow for their sin will produce genuine, heartfelt repentance which will produce deeds of repentance 2 Corinthians 7:10 and Luke 5:32 I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”, 2 Peter 3:9 and Acts 2:38. When you think about it John the Baptist, Jesus and Peter all first said REPENT. I may tell the person to go online and look at all the verses about repentance and read Psalm 51. I might tell them to go home & pray to ask God to give them repentance and forgiveness. If they admit their sexual sin, I may tell them about the woman caught in adultery who was told by Jesus that He forgave her but to go and sin no more.

I usually do tell them that if they truly repent and trust in Jesus alone that the proof will be in transformation of their life. They will have a hunger for God's Word and instruction, they will want to obey and become doers of the Word, their heart's desires will change and their mind will think in a new way. They will want to stop sinning and get involved in a new family of believers (church) and will want to "come out publically" by obedience in baptism. They will become a new creation that they don't recognize as themselves if they are born again. I tell them that they will start hearing from God in their spirit or as they are reading the Bible like He is talking to them alone.

But I also do warn them that the Creator who made them has all authority to tell His creation what to do, and they should obey quickly. A lot of people think they have fire insurance by saying they are Christians or believe, but Jesus is no one's Savior without being their LORD. John 3 that says you must be born again also says John 3:36 that you will obey or you remain under God's wrath. The OT explains rebirth in Ezekiel 36:25-27 which says you will want to obey. Romans 12:1-2 explains the total dedication of your body and mind to God's will. By grace alone--a gift. Ephesians 2:8

First, a brief background of the unbeliever will help most. This was the means Christ Jesus employed during His gospel days in dealing with the Gentiles and the Pharisees.

Then the introduction of God personalities, His ever willingness to redeem and uncommon love to all race through our Savior Christ Jesus.

Testifying God through personal experience as a Christian to effect godly sorrow in him/her. Briefly taken him/her through relevant Bible quotations is expedient in inducing spiritual challenge, to further convince and unveil divine confidence in his/her life.

Finally, confession and acceptance of Christ as true son of God and only personal saviour.
Then encourage to worship at the congregation where undiluted true gospel of God is being preached.

The best way is to bring it up directly. The issue of salvation is 'Faith.'

The best point to bring up regarding this issue is the fact that if you are wrong, you lose nothing, but if the unbeliever is wrong he will lose everything. That will force him to stop and consider what you provide as your witness. You win right or wrong, and he loses right or wrong. It's a good point to make.

First I would answer any questions to the best of my ability about Jesus that they ask. I would do this in a way that does not convey a "i'm right, your wrong" tone. That will only slam their ears closed.

The best way to explain Jesus to an unbeliever, is to show them Jesus, by the way you live. Have a genuine concern for their welfare in the world to come and just as importantly in this world. Show love, kindness, and compassion. Show them the peace you have in your life through Jesus. Your forgiving nature will surly catch their eye. Show them your unfailing generosity. Show them, that though the Holy Spirit, you are a honorable person. Show them, though the power of Jesus Christ, you live a clean, moral life, with a loving heart. Make them a victim of your kindness, compassion and your forgiveness. Let your life be the gravity that pulls them to Jesus.

Now understand you will not see immediate results. It may take years, but there will be results. In my case it took 9 years of fishing with a pastor friend, but eventually, at 58 years old I wanted what he had, and excepted Jesus as Lord. The only regret I had was that he had died first and was unable to see his finished work. You too may not see the finished work, but have faith it will be finished.

The wages of sin is death. The Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.Jesus lived a completely sinless life that he might empower us to escape the snare of sin and it's negative effect on our life. Jesus loves you so much that he died for you.

Then you pause and ask this question: If you were to die today do you know where you would be? Then by that point, the spirit has likely been drawing them already, then you lead them through the sinner's prayer.
