As far as it compares to the holiness of God, all sin is the same. Every sin, from anger to murder, from white lies to adultery, will lead to eternal condemnation (James 4:17; Romans 6:23). All sin...

In John 16 the Lord speaks of the Holy Spirit coming. He says that the Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin. It's very interesting to consider what He says.

"And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment; Of sin, because they believe not on me" - Jn 16:8-9

He will convict the world of sin because they believe not on Jesus. Think about it. The worst sin isn't something that you do, it's something that you don't do! It's not believing in salvation through faith in Jesus!

I have had cancer for 6 years. If they had a pill that could cure me, the worst thing I could do would be TO NOT TAKE THE PILL! (especially if the Lord Himself gave His life so I could have it)

Any thing against the will of God is a sin. The greatest sin according to Old Testament was disobedience. The temptation was the cause of disobedience.. The fall of man was the result of disobedience (Gen.3:5)

The greatest sin according to New Testament and the unpardonable sin is understood to be the sin of continued unbelief in Christ. Why? All sins can be forgiven by the Lord Jesus Christ. First John 1:9 declares, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Therefore, the only sin that cannot be forgiven is to reject Christ and the forgiveness He offers. So, in that sense, the "greatest sin" is not believing in Jesus.(Jn.16:9).

How can a Christian avoid some of the sins? Psalm 1:1-2 offers great insight: "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night."

The greatest of all sins is pride and self righteousness. It is what kept the Pharisees from accepting Jesus as the Messiah. There are many people that live highly morel lives, but without Jesus they are just as lost as the worst of sinners. All goodness comes from God and not from us. Paul said in my flesh is no good thing.

We can not produce good in our selves. Only the spirit of God that lives in us can produce anything good. When we think we are something, we are nothing.

Self righteousness is that sin where we measure our selves by others instead of Jesus. When we love to take the splinter out of our brothers eye when we have a log in our own eye.

We have to remember that when we point the finger at some one else, we are pointing three back at ourselves.

It is giving lip service to Jesus for what He has done to save us guilty sinners, and then using the law wrongly to judge others when we do not know their hearts.

It is the prayer of the Pharisee that believed he was righteous in himself, and held every one else in contempt. The tax collector came as a guilty sinner before God and claimed nothing and could only ask God for mercy.

The Pharisee was condemned and the tax collector went away justified. The book of Romans says when we judge others we are judging ourselves also. Jesus said judge not that ye be not judged.

We all have this thing in us that wants to believe that what we do merits our salvation. It is our filthy rags self righteousness that condemns us.

Without Jesus there is no righteousness. Only God is Holy. Adultry, stealing, and all other sins can be forgiven, but the sin of pride will keep us from the kingdom. It is the sin that got Satan thrown from heaven along with all his minions. All other sins start with pride. We believe we can be our own God.

There is a little verse in First John 1:8 that says if we say we have no sin we are a liar and do not the truth. Pride says I am sinless and have no need of a savior. It is only by the grace and mercy of God that any one comes to the knowledge of the truth. The truth is we are all sinners and come short of the glory of God. But it is the deception of Satan to make us believe we are already righteous in our selves. And the wolves in sheeps clothing that preach self righteousness as the way of salvation are accursed.

The only thing we have to offer God is the blood of Jesus as our righteousness. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust my own righteousness.
