Many Christians use the cliche, "Love the sinner; hate the sin." This saying is not found in the Bible in so many words; however, Jude 1:22-23 contains a similar idea: "Be merciful to those who dou...

In Matthew 7:3 Jesus was saying the opposite when he said –

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”

He was clearly saying, “Love the sinner and hate the sin in your own life.”

We should love sinners, because we are one. We have a hard time with this, but remember, God loved us while we were yet sinners.

God loves us, but hates our sin. That is why He went to the cross so that He could take all of our sins, and give us His righteousness. Romans 4:6-8 so that we could be saved by His grace and mercy.

John 3:16 says, For God so love the world. So God does love every body. If He did not love us He would have never gone through what he did to take all of our sins. He took the punishment we all deserve. Second Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Amazing grace. He took all of our sins and gave us His righteousness.

Since He has forgiven us all trespasses, Colossians 2:13 We are to forgive others their trespasses against us. The Lords prayer.

Yes, God loves everybody. But all those who have trusted in Him have eternal life, and those that have not believed are under the wrath of God.

John 3:36 Believers are safe from ever gong to hell because they have trusted in Jesus and are children of God by faith alone. We are given eternal life.

But, we should love others the way God loves us and gave himself for us. We can hate their sin the way God does, but we should love the sinner, because they may receive the free gift of salvation at some point.
