I don't believe so. Michael, God's archangel who is described as a "chief of the princes" in Daniel 10:13 left it to the Lord.

The first thing that I wish to say is that your question asks if WE have this power. The truth is, by our own, we are powerless. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that demons are cast out of people.

Let me first begin by saying that there are many viewpoints on this. I will provide a few of them for you, so that you can make a well informed decision.

Roman Catholic: The church teaches that priests, bishops, and sometimes seminarians (Canon Law has changed in the last century on this matter) are the only ones who have the right to perform exorcisms, and bishops are commonly involved in the process. There is a tremendous amount of discernment that goes into such an event, to ensure that the issue is not in fact a mental illness, a medical condition, or a figment of their imagination.

Evangelical Protestant: Perspectives vary, but most believe that all Christians have the right to cast demons out in Jesus' name. That being said, there is no formal position held across denominations. It would be best to ask each pastor his perspective.

Pentecostal/Charismatic: People in this group have written volumes on the subject, and even have attempted to offer methods on how to do so. Frank Hammond, Win Worley, and Derek Prince are several names to consider researching. Usually, they believe that all Christians can cast out demons, and that Mark 16 shows that they can and are called to.

The World: As a warning to you, remember that the world also is fascinated with evil, and will offer you remedies to the problems demons cause. Talismans of all sorts are on the market, and exorcisms are all over our movies. Witches offer all sorts of remedies to demonic issues, and under no point should they be consulted.

In my opinion:

This authority was specifically given to the disciples. It is important to note that Jesus also taught that all believers have access to the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit can enable them to do miraculous things. In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing. And they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father" (John 14:12, NIV).

This passage suggests that believers in Jesus have the potential to do the same kinds of works that Jesus did, including healing the sick and casting out demons. However, it's important to understand that this power comes not from our own abilities, but from the Holy Spirit working through us.

Ultimately, the ability to cast out demons and perform other miraculous works is dependent on our relationship with God and our willingness to submit to His will. The specific authority given to the disciples was unique to their mission.

All believers have access to the power of the Holy Spirit, which can enable them to do great things for God's kingdom.

This authority is called a 'commission.' This is actually a legal arrangement granted by a very real divine government operating in heaven right now. We even know the name of this 'deliberative assembly' now because it was revealed to us by the Holy Spirit in the letter to the Hebrews, it is called the 'Assembly of the Firstborn' (Hebrews 12:23). 

The 'Firstborn' is one of the titles of Christ, so the assembly itself is named after Christ who also presides over it. You can rightly imagine this official body as GOD's version of 'Congress.' In fact, our Congress is merely man's 'secular' version of this holy assembly. 

We often forget that we are the 'copies' and GOD is the 'original' upon which we are based, so anything we might instinctively create, invent or arrange, (that actually functions to our benefit), is nothing but a pallid and distant version of a far superior preexisting 'divine original.' 

Just like our 'Congress' we must receive a 'commission' to do things under GOD's actual authority. Fortunately, unlike 'earthly Congress,' GOD's holy Assembly of 'Congressmen' are not in any way corrupt, partisan or 'slow' to action. In fact, heaven is an 'eternal' domain, which means that it is not bound by time as we are.

This is why we can actually get an 'instant answer' to issues that would require decades of 'careful deliberation' by those bound by time. By the time men give it proper consideration, the issue has past and the damage is done. In heaven, no matter how long these holy men 'deliberate,' no time has actually passed here. 

Cool, huh?

The way it works is that Christ Himself gets the final 'vote' and can reject any motion brought before Him, returning the men to more deliberation. That deliberation is based on the same revealed truth that you and I have in the Holy Bible. That makes us fellow 'citizens' with a real voice even now, (Philippians 3:20).

The problem we have is an issue of 'faith,' which you should note was an issue even for the disciples who eventually ran into a 'family' of demonic entities not 'fully deliberated upon' when the commission was granted. They were unable to remove this kind of demon and Jesus had to do it for them, (Matthew 17:15-21). 

Obviously, this was no 'accident' and GOD did this to teach us that He may be omnipotent, but we are not. We are limited vessels still learning and growing in faith. 

By obeying Christ, you will soon learn the 'rights' of citizenship and how to make 'official requests.' If the entire idea strikes you as 'silly' or you were expecting to deal with this reality only after physical death, you need to reread verses like this one:

"Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." (Colossians 3:2). 

You should also be aware that 'demons' are not snarling beasts who possess young virgins and cause their heads to spin while projectile vomiting and crawling on the ceiling. The violent reactions described in scripture are moments of 'exposure' prior to being cast out. 

"And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds." (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). 

Demons are beloved sources of inspired art, culture, economic theory, politics, and social movements. They present themselves as 'loving,' 'nice,' 'compassionate,'and 'endearing.' They promise 'progress,' 'unity,' 'enlightenment' and 'peace.' They attach themselves to family lineages, communities and even entire nations, (depending on their 'size' and 'genera'). 

Even the damage, 'accidents,' illnesses and deaths are 'spun' as the 'necessary cost' of their 'advancing progress.' They never seem 'evil,' until you threaten them with exposure. So they are all around us influencing people, nature, economics, geopolitics and global social movements. We are 'tolerating' them.

Minds set on things 'below' or things 'above?'
