The book of Ecclesiastes was written by Solomon the son of David. Below are the points to confirm this.

1. Ecclesiastes 1:1 says '1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David'. Solomon was the son of David.

2. Again Ecclesiastes 1:1 says ' king in Jerusalem'. He was also a ruler of Jerusalem

3. The book of Ecclesiastes has many great truths, only a person who has wisdom could write it. 2 Kings 3:11 says 'I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.'

4. Ecclesiastes speaks about a person who had lived in the pleasures of this world however nothing could give Him perfect peace, hence says that everything is vanity. This coincides with the life of Solomon, who built great buildings and had many wives and concubines. All these wouldn't have satisfied him, which made him to come to a conclusion that all is vanity, so that is why in Ecclesiastes 1:2 he says 'Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; Vanity of vanities, all is vanity'.

5. The book of Ecclesiastes comes in as a combination of Worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom. What is the difference between worldly wisdom and wisdom from above. James 3:14-18 says 'But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy'.

And Ecclesiastes 2:18 says 'Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me', which is the wisdom of the world, as it is self seeking.

the conclusion is that GOD had given Solomon Worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom and it is clear when reading all the verses in Ecclesiastes, so the book should have been written by Solomon.

6. The previous book Proverbs and the next book Songs of Solomon were written by Solomon, so logically also this book should have been written by Solomon.

Ecclesiastes was written more that 2500 years ago. The book itself only claims to be written by a person with the name or title of Kohelet or Koheleth. At some point, much nearer to the point of its writing, an early biographer wrote these words and appended them to the end of the book. "Kohelet was wise and he passed on his knowledge to the people. He pondered, searched out, and set in order many proverbs. He studied to find just the right words, and what he wrote was honest and true. The words of the wise guide our lives like a shepherd; their collected sayings are like firmly driven nails. Beware of adding to their words, for you will discover that there is no end to what people write, and trying to study it all will exhaust you."

I have been studying those wise words for the past 35 years and have now memorized the entire book and perform it as a one person show. It is amazing how this book can speak to us when we stop trying to attribute it Solomon so we can dismiss it as a negative rant from an old man who has fallen away from God.
