Is our eternal life spent in heaven or on earth?

Revelation 21:1 - 4

NKJV - 1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

In my opinion, when Jesus returns in glory at the close of the present age, He will reign eternally with the church (consisting of all resurrected and glorified believers) on the new earth described in verse 1 of the passage (rather than in heaven).

This new earth will never fall into sin and corruption, as the old earth did, because death and Satan will have been destroyed, and both the new heaven and the new earth described in the verse will be eternally free of Satan's rebellion, and the subsequent influence he had through the power of sin over the old earth.
