What does it mean to think of things that are pure and of good report?

Philippians 4:8

ESV - 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Before we became aware of the spiritual, we are usually consumed with our everyday wants and needs. We have a worldly appetite. Once we awaken to a new life in Jesus, our priorities change.

We want to (Deuteronomy 16:20) abstain from evil, we know that hurts our new relationship with the Lord. We have love as the basis of our actions. (1 Corinthians chapter 13) We treat others more kindly, we see that they are God's children too.

As a Christian, we are concerned about what God says about everything. 2 Corinthians 8:21 - providing honest things not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

We desire to meditate and study God's word. We grow in our relationship with Him. We try to please Him every day, in every way.

We fill ourselves with whatever God says is good and pure, honest and true. Our whole focus changes. We try to become more like Jesus. Jesus told us to Love God first, and to love one another. Our goal is to live this reality.

In my short fashion of an answer, here is my take: When one becomes a Christian--a Child of God--He "washes and cleanses your soul of all unrighteousness" but you still live in the flesh and in this world, that is Satan's domain, in which "he roams about like a roaring Lion, seeking whom he may devour". To ward off or counter these daily attacks of the evil one, we each must have that "childlike faith in God, that He will lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" look to Him state of mind. The Bible tells us each to "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness and He will direct your paths..." To do this is to first have the "right state of mind" and intentionally put forth your faith and trust in the Lord in all that you do, say or think! And "He will direct your every pathway!".

Point being is this: Think on things that are pure, good, of good character, righteous and Holy. "Tread on God's"..... "narrow path of righteousness"!
