Scripture teaches what is often called “progressive revelation.” Simply put, this means that God revealed Himself to His people over many centuries, periodically giving new information that built on but did not contradict or deny what came before. For example, the Lord spoke to Abraham and gave him the promise of salvation (Gen. 12:1-3; Gal. 3:16). Salvation has been and is always by grace through faith based on blood. -- Gen. 15:6; Hab. 2:4; Eph. 2:5-8; 2 Tim. 1:9. So when God gave Abraham the promise of salvation, it took a blood sacrifice to show him this: see Genesis 22 where God commands Abraham to sacrifice his son but then provides a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. There are not 2 ways of salvation. The law was not given to serve as a means of salvation (Rom. 3:20, 28; Gal. 2:16; 3:11, 21).
