The substitution includes the “people of God.” It used to be the Israelites, but now all nations who believe in him and act according to his teachings, as well as the laws of Moses, are his people. The Israelites received his blessings and promises, yes, but that means nothing to them if they don’t come forward into our Lord’s flock.
