No addiction is a sin. That is to confuse a medical issue with a moral issue. People suffering from an addiction cannot control what they do and they need medical help if they wish to overcome the problem. On the other hand, sin is the breaking of God's law Rom 4:13. And as there are no laws agatinst addiction, whether drugs or alcohol or caffeine, there is no sin. Let's not put extra burdens on those who are struggling against an addiction and load them down with false guilt about being morally at fault as well as being unable to control their addiction. Let's offer some understanding and point them in the direction of a doctor rather than a telling off. Phil

Colossians 3:16 Let no man, therefore judge you in food or in DRINK, or in respect of a feast day, or of the new moon, or of a Sabbath day. We are not to judge others on these things and we should not allow others to judge us. We all have sins of the flesh. Remember that minor things are just that, and we are to love one another and not pick at every little thing they do. Romans 14:22 Hast thou faith? Have it to thyself before God, Happy is that man that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. In other words, don't be self righteous. We are none of us perfect, and we all sin. That is part of our old nature and why Jesus had to die for us. If we could have lived without sin, then Jesus died in vain. We are under grace, not under the law. Romans 11:6. If a person is stealing or living in adultery, or drunkenness, or any of the other sins named, we should warn them that we reap what sow. But Jesus has already paid our sin debt in full by his own blood sacrifice for all sin. None of us are pefect yet, and will not be perfect until we are changed at the resurrection when we will be like Him and see Him as He is. We are not to strain at a gnat and swallow a camel like the Pharisees did. Remember John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. We are to rest in Jesus finished work on the cross. Jesus paid our sin debt in full. We have the righteousness of Christ given to us. As Paul said, I have no righteousness of my own but that which comes by faith. Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him who justieth the ungodly, (all of us) his faith is counted for righteousness. We have nothing to boast in because we did nothing for our salvation. It is a free gift of God when we believe the gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4 Ephesians 2:8-9 Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, (spiritual death,) (and we all sin) but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Self righteousness is sin and brings pride. And the Pharisee prayed with him self, and told the Lord how good He was. None of us are good enough to go to heaven. That is why we have to have His righteousness that He gives us when we trusted Jesus as our savior. We all sin every day because even when we do good their is evil present with us. Don't be a fruit inspector. Those verses are for those preaching a false gospel. Matthew 7:15-20.

AMPC They promise them liberty, when they themselves are the slaves of depravity and defilement—for by whatever anyone is made inferior or worse or is overcome, to that [person or thing] he is enslaved. Compare this with what Michael said above about 1 Cor 6:12: "1 Corinthians 6:12 is likely the most applicable scripture. While the context is dealing with sexual immorality, Paul's words clearly go beyond sexual immorality when he says, 'I will not be mastered by anything.'"
