Judas had every intention to confront Jesus and the other disciples by force. He could not comprehend the idea that Jesus would willingly die to fulfill his purpose, despite the fact that Jesus told them many times before (Matthew 20:17-19, Matthew 26:1-2). Judas was expecting a fight.

Even Peter, leader of the disciples was in denial. In verse 11, "Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?"
