I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives,
"Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" says the Lord GOD, "and not that he should turn from his ways and live?
Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever!
Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it is an evil time.
By these letters the king permitted the Jews who were in every city to gather together and protect their lives - to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the forces of any people or province that would assault them, both little children and women, and to plunder their possessions,
The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever!
For what more has the wise man than the fool? What does the poor man have, Who knows how to walk before the living?
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar.
For the customs of the peoples are futile; For one cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
They are futile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish.
Behold, the noise of the report has come, And a great commotion out of the north country, To make the cities of Judah desolate, a den of jackals.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "As I live, surely My oath which he despised, and My covenant which he broke, I will recompense on his own head.
The virgin of Israel has fallen; She will rise no more. She lies forsaken on her land; There is no one to raise her up.
And Joshua said, "By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites:
"Stay this night, and in the morning it shall be that if he will perform the duty of a close relative for you - good; let him do it. But if he does not want to perform the duty for you, then I will perform the duty for you, as the LORD lives! Lie down until morning."
Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.
"Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man.
"All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king, who has not been called, he has but one law: put all to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter, that he may live. Yet I myself have not been called to go in to the king these thirty days."
I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone, For my days are but a breath.
