Matthew 23:4-8

Seven Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees

⁴ _y They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, ₁ and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. ⁵ _t They do all their deeds _z to be seen by others. For they make _a their phylacteries broad and _b their fringes long, ⁶ and they _c love the place of honor at feasts and _d the best seats in the synagogues ⁷ and _d greetings in _e the marketplaces and being called _f rabbi ₂ by others. ⁸ _g But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are _h all brothers. ₃
