Job Continues: I Will Maintain My Integrity
Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said:
" As God lives, a who has taken away my justice,
And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,
As long as my breath is in me,
And the breath of God in my nostrils,
My lips will not speak wickedness,
Nor my tongue utter deceit.
Far be it from me
That I should say you are right;
Till I die b I will not put away my integrity from me.
My righteousness I c hold fast, and will not let it go;
d My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.
"May my enemy be like the wicked,
And he who rises up against me like the unrighteous.
e For what is the hope of the hypocrite,
Though he may gain much,
If God takes away his life?
f Will God hear his cry
When trouble comes upon him?
g Will he delight himself in the Almighty?
Will he always call on God?
"I will teach you about the hand of God;
What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
Surely all of you have seen it;
Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?
"This h is the portion of a wicked man with God,
And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:
i If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword;
And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
Those who survive him shall be buried in death,
And j their widows shall not weep,
Though he heaps up silver like dust,
And piles up clothing like clay -
He may pile it up, but k the just will wear it,
And the innocent will divide the silver.
He builds his house like a moth,
l Like a booth which a watchman makes.
The rich man will lie down,
But not be gathered up;
He opens his eyes,
And he is m no more.
n Terrors overtake him like a flood;
A tempest steals him away in the night.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone;
It sweeps him out of his place.
It hurls against him and does not o spare;
He flees desperately from its power.
Men shall clap their hands at him,
And shall hiss him out of his place.

For Job has said, 'I am righteous, But God has taken away my justice.
Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!
Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him.
Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.
I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me.
This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
"But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?'

For then you will have your delight in the Almighty, And lift up your face to God.

Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the LORD has spoken.
This is the portion from God for a wicked man, The heritage appointed to him by God.
You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.
The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews - they killed; but they did not lay a hand on the plunder.
Just as I saw Ephraim like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place, So Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer.
Their priests fell by the sword, And their widows made no lamentation.
One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion Gathers it for him who will pity the poor.
For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.
So the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, As a hut in a garden of cucumbers, As a besieged city.
He has done violence to His tabernacle, As if it were a garden; He has destroyed His place of assembly; The LORD has caused The appointed feasts and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion. In His burning indignation He has spurned the king and the priest.
The eye of him who sees me will see me no more; While your eyes are upon me, I shall no longer be.
Why then do You not pardon my transgression, And take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust, And You will seek me diligently, But I will no longer be.
Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?
Terrors frighten him on every side, And drive him to his feet.
"And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together," says the LORD. "I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them." '"
Therefore, as I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'surely, because you have defiled My sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I will also diminish you; My eye will not spare, nor will I have any pity.
I, the LORD, have spoken it; It shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not hold back, Nor will I spare, Nor will I relent; According to your ways And according to your deeds They will judge you," Says the Lord GOD.'
