Jesus' Side Is Pierced
c Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, d that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a e high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him.
But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately f blood and water came out.
And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is g true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may h believe.
For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, i "Not one of His bones shall be broken."
And again another Scripture says, j "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."

On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate.
Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath.
That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.
His body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God.
And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening. And as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his corpse down from the tree, cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raise over it a great heap of stones that remains to this day.
And afterward Joshua struck them and killed them, and hanged them on five trees; and they were hanging on the trees until evening.
On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat - that only may be prepared by you.
And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; seven days you must eat unleavened bread.
On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.
1 John 5:6
This is He who came by water and blood - Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
1 John 5:8
And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.
They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break one of its bones. According to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it.
He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken.
For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet.
I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me.
And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
"And one will say to him, 'What are these wounds between your arms?' Then he will answer, ' Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.'
Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
