The Lord's Concern for His Holy Name
Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
"Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, v they defiled it by their own ways and deeds; to Me their way was like w the uncleanness of a woman in her customary impurity.
"Therefore I poured out My fury on them x for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols with which they had defiled it.
"So I y scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries; I judged them z according to their ways and their deeds.
"When they came to the nations, wherever they went, they a profaned My holy name - when they said of them, 'These are the people of the LORD, and yet they have gone out of His land.'
"But I had concern b for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations wherever they went.

For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants.
(for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled).
Lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you.
I brought you into a bountiful country, To eat its fruit and its goodness. But when you entered, you defiled My land And made My heritage an abomination.
If a woman has a discharge, and the discharge from her body is blood, she shall be set apart seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening.
Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because your filthiness was poured out and your nakedness uncovered in your harlotry with your lovers, and with all your abominable idols, and because of the blood of your children which you gave to them.
And I will judge you as women who break wedlock or shed blood are judged; I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy.
For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have committed adultery with their idols, and even sacrificed their sons whom they bore to Me, passing them through the fire, to devour them.
Then the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known - wood and stone.
One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.
I will scatter you among the nations, disperse you throughout the countries, and remove your filthiness completely from you.
For surely I will command, And will sift the house of Israel among all nations, As grain is sifted in a sieve; Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.
Now the end has come upon you, And I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways, And I will repay you for all your abominations.
Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways," says the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.
"According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I have dealt with them, and hidden My face from them."'
Who "will render to each one according to his deeds":
Now therefore, what have I here," says the LORD, "That My people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them Make them wail," says the LORD, "And My name is blasphemed continually every day.
"But I will spare a few of their men from the sword, from famine, and from pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the Gentiles wherever they go. Then they shall know that I am the LORD."
For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," as it is written.
But I acted for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles among whom they were, in whose sight I had made Myself known to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
But I acted for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out.
