The Sin of Judah
"The sin of Judah is written with r a pen of iron; with a point of diamond it is engraved on s the tablet of their heart, and on t the horns of their altars,
while u their children remember their altars and their v Asherim, w beside every green tree and on the high hills,
x on the mountains in the open country. y Your wealth and all your treasures I will give for spoil as the price of your high places for sin throughout all your territory.
You shall loosen your hand from your heritage that I gave to you, z and I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you do not know, a for in my anger a fire is kindled that shall burn forever."
Thus says the Lord:
"Cursed is the man b who trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,
whose heart turns away from the Lord.
c He is like a shrub in the desert,
d and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in e an uninhabited salt land.
f "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
g whose trust is the Lord.
h He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit."
The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it?
i "I the Lord search the heart
j and test the mind,
k to give every man according to his ways,
according to the fruit of his deeds."
Like the l partridge that gathers a brood that she did not hatch,
so is m he who gets riches but not by justice;
n in the midst of his days they will leave him,
o and at his end he will be a fool.
A glorious throne set on high from the beginning
is the place of our sanctuary.
O Lord, p the hope of Israel,
q all who forsake you shall be put to shame;
those who turn away from you r shall be written in the earth,
for s they have forsaken t the Lord, the fountain of living water.

Oh that with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock forever!
Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
2 Corinthians 3:3
And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
And you shall make horns for it on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.
The Lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar!
And have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind -
And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.
You shall not plant any tree as an Asherah beside the altar of the Lord your God that you shall make.
For they shall be ashamed of the oaks that you desired; and you shall blush for the gardens that you have chosen.
For long ago I broke your yoke and burst your bonds; but you said, 'I will not serve.' Yes, on every high hill and under every green tree you bowed down like a whore.
Psalms 48:1 - 2
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain.
On the holy mount stands the city he founded.
And many peoples shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Your wealth and your treasures I will give as spoil, without price, for all your sins, throughout all your territory.
I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you do not know, for in my anger a fire is kindled that shall burn forever.
For a fire is kindled by my anger, and it burns to the depths of Sheol, devours the earth and its increase, and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.
2 Chronicles 32:8
With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles." And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
Flee! Save yourselves! You will be like a juniper in the desert!
Therefore thus says the Lord : Behold, I will punish Shemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants. He shall not have anyone living among this people, and he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, declares the Lord, for he has spoken rebellion against the Lord.'
He will not look upon the rivers, the streams flowing with honey and curds.
What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good?
The whole land burned out with brimstone and salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath -
To whom I have given the arid plain for his home and the salt land for his dwelling place?
O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
1 Chronicles 28:9
And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
But, O Lord of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I committed my cause.
Great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man, rewarding each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
For according to the work of a man he will repay him, and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
And that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.
1 Samuel 26:20
Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of the Lord, for the king of Israel has come out to seek a single flea like one who hunts a partridge in the mountains.
Surely a man goes about as a shadow! Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
But you, O God, will cast them down into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.
But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?
O you hope of Israel, its savior in time of trouble, why should you be like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who turns aside to tarry for a night?
If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.
For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
But rebels and sinners shall be broken together, and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
And I will declare my judgments against them, for all their evil in forsaking me. They have made offerings to other gods and worshiped the works of their own hands.
For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
