The "worm" that will not perish is the rejected Messiah, Jesus Christ. In fact, Jesus quotes the first verse of Psalm 22 during His crucifixion. In doing so, He was alluding to the entire psalm. In this case, it's worth noting v6 of Psalm 22; in which the speaker (i.e. the rejected Christ, Who alludes to Psalm 22 from His cross) characterizes Himself as a "worm...despised by the people." Psalms 22:6 (NASB) 6 But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. Their "worm' will not perish in that those who reject the Messiah (and ultimately G-d) will be accountable for their decision eternally.
