Why was honey forbidden on the altar?
There seems to be some controversy as to whether this referred to bees' honey or some form of syrup from fruits.
Leviticus 2:11
ESV - 11 No grain offering that you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey as a food offering to the Lord.

By my understanding, honey could be offered, but could not be burned, because the burning process would make it swell and froth, creating a repulsive appearance that would make it symbolically equivalent to moral evil.
